The World Harmony Run is a global torch relay that symbolizes humanity’s universal aspiration for a more harmonoius world. It was founded by Sri Chinmoy in 1987 and is organized in over 100 countries .
Now in its third decade, the world harmony run is humanity’s largest and longest grass roots effort for peace. Those who shared the spirit of harmony with Sri chinmoy included celebrities like Mother Theresa, Nelson Mandela, Mikhail Gorbachev Archibishop Desmond Tutu, Carl Lewis and Mohammed Ali etc.
The run is organized by volunteers inspired by Sri chinmoy’s vision of a more peaceful world. In cities and towns, local community groups and officials are partnered in this programme. No money is being raised, no political cause is being promoted. Rather every one is invited to take a step towards a better world.
During this year, ie., 2010, in Andhra Pradesh, this run is being organized jointly by the NCC Directorate and Andhra Pradesh United Nations Association (APUNA) at 9 centres. The first of this is held today in Secunderabad. The run started at Tank Bund in front of Buddha statue at 6.30 a.m. on the 8th July and was conducted upto Byson Grounds, ie., a distance of 5 km. Around 150 NCC cadets took part in this run.
Air Commodore A.S.Bahl V.M., Dy. Director General General, NCC. Andhra Pradesh lit the torch and flagged the run. Col. T.Sarat, Group Commander and Lt.Col. S.B.Chatri, Camp Commandant graced the occasion.
APUNA was represented by Sri D.Sitarama Dass.

A World harmony is being organized by the NCC Directorate Andhra Pradesh to spread awareness of world peace and Harmony during the month of Jul-Aug 10 in the various camp activity organized by the various NCC Group Head quarters . Since the Andhra Pradesh NCC Directorate is organizing the said Harmony Run for the first time may we kindly request necessary sponsorship in form of Refreshments and Soveniours to be given away to the Cadets so participating in the World Harmony Run organized by the NCC Directorate Andhra Pradesh.
The sponsorship may please be invited for providing the kitting item like cap which can display the sponsorers logo. As for the refreshments are concerned lime / glucose water along with tea & snacks to the participating cadets and local students on culmination of each run will suffice the requirement The financial implication for the expenditure to be incurred on the Harmony run at all the 9 locations for 400 cadets for each location will be 3600 cadets from all over NCC Directorate AP, while the cost of Soveniour (cap @ Rs.50/- for each cadet) Refreshments (@ of Rs.25 per Cadet) and cost of Publicity banners and 09 Rally torches would be approx Rs.50,000. The total expenditure would amount to approximately Rs.3,20,000, which is requested to be funded through sponsorship.
As already brought out, the run will be organized all over Andhra Pradesh as part of the world harmony run wherein, the Cadets will be spreading the message of Peace & Harmony amongst the local population which is so very important to the state of Andhra Pradesh in the present Socio-politico environment. |
